A key achievement of this trade agreement is an increased de minimis shipment value level, with the goal of facilitating increased cross-border trade. For the first time in decades, Canada has raised its de minimis level from C$20 to C$40 for taxes, in addition to providing for duty free shipments up to C$150. Mexico will provide duty free shipments up to the equivalent level of USD $117, and will be continuing to provide USD $50 tax free de minimis.

To explain this in simpler terms, Canadian customers may purchase up to $150 in merchandise without having to pay customs duties, and will be Canadian tax free on orders up to $40. Customers in Mexico can now order up to $117 in merchandise duty-free, and up to $50 tax free.
