Combining Magnetic Separation and Metal Detection for Comprehensive Solutions for the Plastics Industry

Bunting offers several different Perfect Plant Diagrams for your viewing. We have designed these Perfect Plant Diagrams with specific facets of the plastics industry in mind. For example, in regrind systems, we recommend a system where material enters the product stream, then travels on a grinder feeder conveyor and passes beneath a crossbelt, where the high power magnetic separation of the plate magnet pulls out any ferrous contamination. A drum magnet or head pulley may also be used at this step. Next, the material passes through the meTRON™ C metal detector, where non-ferrous metals and stainless steel can be detected and removed from the product stream. Some regrind facilities may also use an Eddy current separator to help purify the plastic stream. Later in this process, when the material is blown or vacuumed, Bunting’s pneumatic in-line magnet delivers a second round of magnetic separation, right before material passes through the pTRON™ metal detector for another round of metal detection. By installing a plate housing magnet and quickTRON™ 03R metal detector at the final point in this production line before material falls into a Gaylord Cleaning Station, material will have undergone metal contamination removal at three key critical points.

Metal contamination can enter material at any point in the production process, commonly as a result of wear and tear on standard equipment that can lead to tiny metal particles falling into the product stream.
